What Causes Dizziness And Nausea When Diagnosed With Vertigo?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Nov 2017
Question: I have had 2 "episodes" of Vertigo since last Friday. I am scheduled to have Knee Replacement surgery next Thursday. Should I cancel my surgery. I cannot get an appointment with my physician, nor an ENT, before then. I went to our local ER in May for Vertigo, and he prescribed meds for dizziness and nausea and a steroid. I have been taking both the meds for dizziness and nausea, but know I should not take any steroids before my surgery, next week! Any suggestions???? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Take plenty of water and ORS to drink.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. You need to take plenty of fluids to drink. I need to ask you your blood pressure. A low blood pressure could be the cause of the vertigo. A viral infection involving the hearing apparatus in our inner ear (also responsible for balance) could also be the cause. The steroid has possibly been given to control the likelihood of an inflammation which could be associated. If a doctor has prescribed the steroid, you can feel free to take it even though you have surgery scheduled next week. I do not suppose that you need to cancel the surgery.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
