Question : I am a type 1 diabetic. I am also suffering from a severe case of bronchitis. My blood sugar was 400 when I awoke, and, despite bolusing a large amount of insulin, my bg levels XXXXXXX to over 600. I changed my pump set, and directly inject 30 units of humalog. An hour later, my bg has dropped to 581. I have directly injected another 30 units, but I am also now suffering from light dizziness and my right hand is cramping badly. Should I head to the hospital now?
Brief Answer:
You should go to ER.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing HCM.
Noted your concern.
With such a high levels of blood sugar level I may suggest you should go to ER without delay.
There is a need for urgent Arterial blood gas & urine ketone assessment and accordingly there is a need for intravenous insulin infusion with frequent monitoring of blood sugar level.
Meanwhile please try to drink water as much as possible..
Simultaneously following investigations may be suggested-
- Complete Blood Count.
- Renal Function test including urea, creatinine, electrolytes, uric acid.
- Liver Function Test.
- Chest X-ray.
- Urine examination.
Hope this helps you.
