What Causes Dizziness And Spinning Head In A Person With Vitamin Deficiency And Dyslipidemia?

Question: Hi

My Name is XXXXXXX I am a Male 35 years old. 6 months ago on morning i suddenly woke up with a stiff neck and giddiness including vomitting. I rush to emergency and hospital admitted me and conducted few tests including lipid profile, doppler of my head and neck, NCV and A Test for nerves in which doctor inserted needles in my limbs. Other then lipid profile all my tests were negative .
i was diagonsed with Acute Peripheral Vertigo and Dyslipidimea . Doctor put me on Lipid lowering medications for 1 month and stopped my medication. After 6 months (nearly three weeks before) i got diagonsed with a kidney stone in my left kidney for which i went through a endoscopic procedure to remove stone and stent implantation. Nearly at same time i started feeling mild dizziness, a feeling like my head is spinning and feeling that everything is swaying around me and that i am not able to keep my balance before . I have never experienced this feeling(s) beforw. My urologist said that beucase i am under strong antibiotics i should ignore this(to be honest he is nit aware that i had vertigo) but after 2 weeks when all my urology procedure and medications were ovee (that included a stone removal and stent implantation, stent removal after a week and UTI for 5 days where i had fever for 3-4 days around 100). i still had all these feelings of swaying, head spinning, imbalance now rather strongly. I then contacted a neurologist. where my romberg test was positive .He conducted few blood tests and ordered a MRI of my head . I had an implant in my left forearm that is mettalic and non compatible to MR. hence radiologist told me that i cannot have a MRI. So my Neurologist asked me to do a NCCR head Plain.

My head CT scan is normal. However My blood tests show deficient VitamiN D 3, B 12 And bad Lipid Profile. He said that it will take while before my swaying issues will go after my lipid profile becomes better and my vitamin deficiency is removed .

i have this swaying and imbalance feeling almost all the time . Is There a Chance of a stroke with these symptoms?

when should i be Ok ?

Brief Answer:
Stroke very unlikely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

First, there is need for some clarifications about your health status.

-Since there was infection and a vitamin B12 deficiency, is there anemia in your blood tests?

-Are there positions, medications, situations that your symptoms worsen or get better?

Both, dyslipidemia and vitamin B12 deficiency can cause dizziness, balance problems and vertigo, so I think this is cause of your symptoms.

I agree with your Neurologist, your symptoms will subside gradually, as the dyslipidemia and vitamin deficiencies are corrected. (probably in a couple of months)

In my opinion, chances of stroke are very-very low, since there was a brain CT scan that resulted normal.

MRI is the best imaging tool about stoke, especially in the first hours, but CT scan done 24 hours later or more, can diagnose stroke too.

Hope this helps. I remain at your disposal for further questions and clarifications. Best regards.

Hello Dr Erion

1. Yes i think i had macrolytic Anemia.I had uploaded my CBC report dated 20th May 2015 for your reference

2. My symptoms have worsensed from there onset (i.e. 3 weeks from now)., but they are moreover same from the time i met my neurologist. (4 days ago)

Since you mentioned that it will take 2 months for complete recovery.

Does that mean i cannot join my work (i am an IT engineer and have to sit in front of computer for 9-10 hours a day) ? Also can i start some physical excercises for weight control and so that my lipid profile becomes good.

Your thoughts on stroke is indeed very comforting
As i said why could not the doctor go for a MRI. I feel very anxious and afraid due to this phenomenon and in.night esp i feel like my blood vessels on left side of head would burst.I am not sure that if this is only pshycological....

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms will improve.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back XXXXXXX

Thanks for the feedback. I have examined your reports.

There is slight lowering of hemoglobin into red cells. The rest is okay. Maybe the values were low before.

I still think your symptoms are related to vitamins deficiencies, and not related to stroke.

MRI uses magnetic fields, so if there's a metallic implantion in your arm, magnetic field can cause damage by heating or moving the implant.

There are implants ( titanium ones) that are compatible with MRI.

Exercise is a good thing especially in dislipidemia.

To go to work or not, there is need for an evaluation of symptoms off-work/on-work for some days, if no significant difference, you don't have to stop working.

Hope I helped you. Best regards.
