Question: If Iv had less then 9 and a half hours of sleep I wake up feeling light headed, faint, weak, have trouble speaking, my heart feels like its racing, I have trouble standing up and my ears feel this hot ooze feeling in my ears with trouble hearing. It goes away as soon as I get that extra sleep. I'd like to add that I'm on geodone (probably spelled wrong) for my bi polar disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

As you describe specifically 9 and half hours sleep is needed for you , it is not like that.
Human being require 6-8 hours sleep per day for satisfactory rest.If you deprive for sleep for few days for 1 hour per day, later on body automatically compensate requirement of sleep by taking more sleep in next few days.So just check that in recent past you have sleep deprivation.

You are on zyprasidone(Geodone) which is not causing sleep disturbance. One possibility is postural hypotension with this antipsyhotic medicine.

Your symptoms are just like of postural hypotension means decrease in blood pressure after posture change.
As you awake from supine position, your blood pressure reduces suddenly, feeling dizzy, light headed and as soon as you go to sleep again blood pressure revert back and you feel well.

You just can go from sleeping to seating position slowly and after five minitues stand up. If you do not feel above symptoms by doing that , it is postural hypotension. If still not relieved please ask your treating doctor.

Hope you have got the clue, I will be happy to answer again.

Regards,
Dr. Chintan Solanki.
