Question: I have been feeling really off last night and today, I was watching tv with my fiance and just kept getting pressure and dizziness, a little brain zaps it felt like too, also I couldn't sleep much and it took me until about 3 or 4 to finally fall asleep. I kept waking up too. everytine I close my eyes all I see is static and I get anxious and dizzy and open mg eyes right back up, this morning I'm actually feeling pretty fuzzy and numb I guess you would say. my heart rate seems fine. I've been taking zpak for labryinitis or how ever you spell it, I missed my dose yesterday and the pharmacist told me to just resume as I never missed one. I took ativan the past few nights for my anxiety but didn't last night. could this just be my anxiety acting up?

I'm not taking any other medication, what other medications should I be taking? so this is all normal, with of course my anxiety which I might add is incredibly horrible. it terrfied me last night when I got dizzy every time I closed my eyes. I also have a constant ringing ear which is horrible, sometimes I don't notice it as much other times its ear piercing. I've been trying to stay away from the ativan but when my dizziness gets so bad my heart starts to race and my heart rate sky rockets. I really appreciate you answering my questions, it honestly calms my anxiety down quite a bit. thank you.

Brief Answer:
Anti-viral/steroids/anti-vertigo, VRE. Anxiety is normal. Do not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. I usually recommend medication such as anti-virals (such as acyclovir, valacyclovir), anti inflammatory (including steroids) and anti-vertigo (such as cinnarizine/ Stugeron, betahisine/Vertin or prochlorperazine/ Stemetil).

2. Anxiety is normal in cases of labyrinthitis as loss of confidence is a common feature of dizziness. These symptoms decrease as the dizziness decreases, which is usually in 6-8 weeks or earlier.

3. An important part of the treatment and recovery is Vestibular Rehabilitation Exercises (VRE). A physiotherapist will be able to guide you.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
Yes, all these medications are part of standard treatment of labyrinthitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. Antibiotics are part of the treatment and you are already on antibiotics (z pack).

2. Use Ativan sparingly. Only for severe symptoms of anxiety. These anti-anxiety medications are part of the treatment.

3. The previous answer discusses additional treatment besides your current treatment.

4. Let your treating physicians decide the exact combination of medication.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
