default
Posted on Fri, 7 Nov 2014
Question: My husband is 74 he has a blood pressure of 123/88on left arm and right arm is 110/ 74 average of 2 readings. He has felt light headed since this am. Felt sick earlier. His health has been perfect. Had him eat a candy bar and he seems better. Can you tell me what my next step is for him. He had the same thing about 4 months ago and it went away by the end of the day.

Brief Answer:
Hypoglycemia,vertigo,cardiac issues to rule out...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX

1. Feeling lightheaded could be due to:
- low blood sugar (bs): should check his bs when he has that episode and record the result
- reactive hypoglycemia is to be ruled out
- gastritis/GERD : get him checked by gastro-enterologist and run upper endoscopy

2. Advise to:
- have regular meals, do not skip any
- increase water intake
- avoid foods that would cause spikes in blood sugar and consecutive hypoglycemia
- avoid foods/drinks that would irritate his stomach

Wish fast recovery!
