Posted on Mon, 25 Sep 2017
Question: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx@Hi Dr. B. For the last week been taking Melatonin 5mg po for sleep. Daily meds: Lisinopril/HCTZ 40/25MG 1 po daily. Metoprolol ER (SUCC) 25mg, 1po in evening. Since, Friday, sob on exertion, low endurance with basic daily duties, almost passed out in Walmart on Sat. Now, Sunday, afraid to stand up, dizziness, and feel like fainting.Current BP 71/39, last 3 BP's terribly low, esp diastolic. Think it's a med reaction and really don't want to go to ER. In bed and drinking water. Any suggestions?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome. if you feel like losing consciousness, have pale and cold skin or there is progressive dizziness, then you must see ER or call them. lay down with elevated legs and let someone be with you all the time.

otherwise,it is also advisable to see doctor if bp can't be raised. this is probably caused by medications but some other conditions such as heart arrithmias it internal bleeding may be the cause.

This is really low blood pressure and first, you should not take any antihypertensive medications till BP is so low. second, take fluids and some salty food . some isotonic beverage or carbonated water would be best.

measure your BP after this and see will it raise.also, measure heart rate and blood sugar if you can. any abnormalities should be reported to your doctor. Wish you good health. Regards

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX Yes staying in bed, had great salty dinner with club soda. In XXXXXXX so temp working against me 107, but got a.c. turned down to 70, feel better when standing. BP up to 98/56, diastolic still lagging, but great! No driving, No exertion, dizziness, and, seeing stars subsided. Be staying home tonight.Think out of the woods. Absolutely no meds tonight, including the Melotonin. If no appreciable gain tomorrow will see PCP Tuesday, if can get in. In Blood p drops again so severly will go to ER. But think on the mend. Gotta watch those over the counter supplements with regular meds. Many thanks, enjoy the rest of the Holiday weekend. Thanks for being there. Erma

Hi

Detailed Answer:
Yes,I think it will be fine. You may have too high antihypertensive dosage so reevaluate this in future. avoid hot environment and intensive physical activity in next few days and it will stabilize,I am sure. Wish you nice day too. Regards
