Question : 98 year old mother
Dizziness when she stands, blood pressure drops
A couple of times appears to be a seizure while she was sitting in a chair. Blank stare, then crying and then she asking what is happening to her.
She has experienced TIA's in the past but this appears to be a bit different.

These same symptoms happened less than a year ago. Her blood pressure medication was changed to a non diuretic. She improved and returned to normal over a 2-3 week period. No one could diagnose. Numerous tests were run.

Brief Answer:
Possible small strokes.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

In my opinion, there are two main conditions that may explain your mother's symptoms:
1- Hemodynamic small strokes, due to orthostatic hypotension and/or TIA.

2- Electrolytes dysbalance due to diuretic drugs used ( mainly Natrium and Kalium dysbalance).

Both these conditions could cause seizures or seizure-like symptoms.

Actual diverse from past TIA-s condition could be related to TIA evolution to stroke or XXXXXXX stroke.

Correct diagnosis is achieved by having brain MRI done and blood electrolytes levels.

Hope I helped you. If you have further questions, feel free to ask, if not, you can close the conversation and rate the answer.

Best regards.
