What Causes Double Vision, Speech Problem And Left Hand Cramps?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: I am having progressive worsening in my processing, organization, double vision, louder sounds, face with a flat affect, speech and jumbling of words, walking with my left foot turned in and my left hand in a cramp. I am also having fine motor skill changes where I had to take myself off of surgical cases. I am not sure what is happening. Can you help give me some direction?

Brief Answer:
Need to evaluate in detail

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms. These are suggestive of involvement of different parts of brain, such as frontal lobe (concentration), brain stem (double vision), left frontal/temporal lobe (speech problem), right side of brain (left hand and leg problem).

So, I would do a brain MRI first to exclude any structural lesions, such as ischemia (lack of blood flow) or demyelination (such as multiple sclerosis).

Vitamin B12 and D deficiency should also be excluded.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

The mri was negative. Do u think this could be something like a movement disorder in the Parkinsonism family? I forgot to mention balance issues and proprioception issues. I thought the conventration was just ADD for the last 2 years, and I have been making little mistakes that I brushed off as stress, but the symptoms have worsened. What test would they do for MS? Also, what tests do they do for parkinsons or a syndrome similar? I really thank u.

Brief Answer:
Normal MRI usually excludes MS.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back and providing more information.

Normal MRI usually excludes MS. MRI of brain and spine would show lesions in MS.

Yes, it is possible to be a movement disorder, such as dystonia, which can explain the turning in of left foot and hand while walking. The diagnosis requires a keen observation of your hands and feet by a neurologist, when you walk.

In terms of diagnostic tests, PET CT scan of brain could help; however, it is not mandatory for diagnosis.

Best wishes,
