Brief Answer:
It seems to be due to a viral infection.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone very carefully through the details provided and understand your concerns. Most often respiratory tract infections in children are due to viral infections. Some doctors prefer to prescribe antibiotics just to be safe but that is not a very good practice unless there are definite indications in favor of bacterial infections. Viral infections do not respond to antibiotics and irrespective of treatment, take 5-10 days for spontaneous resolution. All you have to do is to:
* Give some antiallergic like cetirizine or sinarest.
* Give Calpol (paracetamol) 250mg/5ml 12 ml or Calpol 650 tablet one such when required.
* Give steam inhalation. Water in form of vapor reaches deep inside and helps in diluting the cough and thus provides relief. Ascoril exerts similar action.

Be patient. He would soon be fine.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
