What Causes Dry, Flaky Skin Over The Eyelids And On The Penis Glans?

default
Posted on Thu, 21 Apr 2016
Question: I have dry, flakey skin on one of my eyelids and also on the glans of my penis. I have been applying Aquaphor healing ointment to these areas for a couple of months. Within 12 hours of stopping application of the ointment, the dryness returns. There is no itching or pain with this condition but the eyelid sometimes burns a little and the skin flakes off. What could this be and how should it be treated? The dryness is about halfway between the eye lashes and the too of my eye and on the entire glans of the penis.

Brief Answer:
Mostly allergic.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic

I have read your query and understand the concern.

These symptoms of dry, flaky skin over the eyelids could be indicative of a probable allergic blepharitis which is inflammation from either infection of the eye lashes or allergic reaction to something in your environment.

The treatment for both will be more or less same which requires treatment by the use of over the counter anti-allergic drugs (cetrizine 10 mg) or topical soothing lotion if burning or irritation is not severe.

Also, dry and flaky skin over glans penis is likely allergic eczema but provide me pictures of the glans penis to arrive at a certain conclusion.

For eyelids,I would recommend something called eyelash washes or scrubs. You should use diluted Johnson’s baby shampoo and then scrub your eyelids with the shampoo by the help of a cotton tip applicator after soaking it with this solution.

Gently message the eyelid margin with the cotton tip applicator for 1 or 2 minutes which will help to remove debris of infection and allergy.

You may also continue to use Aquaphor healing ointment for symptomatic relief.

We may expect to see improvement within 4 to 5 days on the eyelids.

Keep in mind there is no rash to bumps with this condition. Only very dry skin that flakes off. The skin on the glans seems to be very thin and shiny when penis is erect.

Brief Answer:
could be due to friction or mechanical irritation or some allergic reaction

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome again,

I have carefully seen the image you uploaded.

This dry and flaky skin over the glance penis could be due to friction or mechanical irritation or some allergic reaction.

But I will also want to rule out the chances bacterial or fungal infection.

So let me know some more information.

If there is pain or itching or burning over glans,
Since how many days you have noticed this dry flaky skin?
Do you frequently use condom during sex?

Further, I will advise you to wash glance penis daily while bathing by rinsing with clean shower water. It will remove the excess smegma, leaving a healthy, natural, micro thin layer of this beneficial product to keep the glans moist and sensitive.

Never use soap to clean the glance as it leaves soap deposits that reactivate in the natural moisture, and cause redness or irritation. Soap also removes all the natural moisturizing effect of the smegma, leaving the glans and foreskin dry and open to infections.

Use moisturizer creams or lubricants KY jelly before sexual intercourse to avoid friction.

Hope this details will be helpful and get back to me with more information.
