What Causes Dryness Of Foreskin On Penis Along With Bleeding?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: The foreskin on my penis has become too dry and when I try to pull it down, the skin breaks and bleeds. This has been happening for almost 2 weeks now. I used Betnovate N as well as Soframycin with hardly any change. I have had no sex for almost 10 years.

Brief Answer:
I suggest a possibility of candidal balanoposthitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I have gone through your query and I have understood it.

I will keep a likely possibility of candidal balanoposthitis.
Candidal balanoposthitis classically presents with linear cracks all round on the inner surface of prepuce, specially when it is tried to pull back, also associated with difficulty in retracting prepuce.
The condition is more common in those who have underlying diabetes, which should be suspected specially if candidal balanoposthitis is recurrent.
I suggest you to use an OTC topical antifungal e.g clotrimazole 1% cream Or preferably clotrimazole1%+beclomethasone dipropionate 0.025% cream combination, twice daily for a week.
A single dose of an Oral antifungal e.g fluconazole is also curative.
I suggest you to visit a dermatologist in your vicinity for a confirmatory diagnosis as well as appropriate prescription.

Regards

Dear Dr. Kakkar,
Please mention a couple of trade names for the anti fungal cream. Is Flagyl 500mg a possible oral anti fungal medication?

Thanks & Regards,

Brief Answer:
Kindly check with your local pharmacy

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Dear user, I can only guide you regarding the most likely/ possible cause based on your complaints and I can suggest you the medications based on that.
However, it is always advisable to get a confirmatory diagnosis by visiting a doctor in person.
I cannot give you trade names because I actually have not had the opportunity to examine you personally. It would be unethical on my part.
Having said that, after going through your symptoms I am are fairly sure that your condition is candidal balanoposthitis.
You can check with your local pharmacy for an OTC cream containing Clotrimazole 1% +beclomethasone dipropionate 0.025% combination. I am sure you will find one.
Fluconazole is a prescription drug and I suggest you to talk to your local practitioner for a written prescription.

The drug that you mention (flagyl) is not an Oral antifungal. It contains metronidazole, which is an antiprotozoal.
Neither of the creams that you were using initially contains an antifungal.

Regards
Take care
