What Causes Ear Pressure For 2 Months?

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Jul 2015
Question: My husband felt pressure on both of his ears for a couple of days ago, similar as the feeling of pressure from airplane taking off or landing. This morning the pressure gets better but he felt dizzy whenever he got up. Dizziness went away if he lied down. He bed rested most of the day and it got better by the evening but then he felt mild back sore/pain (same level as the belly button on the back).

He has mild high blood pressure but hasn't been taking medications. This morning the blood pressure was 135/85 so not bad. He didn't test the blood pressure when he had ear pressure problem.

He didn't have any fever or nausea. Eating is normal.

Are these problems connected? do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Brief Answer:
BPPV.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
He seems to be suffering from Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).
This is mostly due to labrynthitis , ear wax or any ENT issue.
In my opinion he should take Anti vertigo medicine like Cinnarizine for a few days.
This should improve in 4-5 days. If no improvement is seen an ENT evaluation should be done.
Now as far as the back pain is concerned, that seems to be unrelated.
I would advice you in such scenario to get him hot fomentation over the back and to apply volini gel locally.
I hope it helps you.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
