Bright red hot coloration of face and ears can occur in number of conditions.
Hormonal imbalance during peri-menopausal period cause hot flushes similar to what you have described.
Vaso-dilation of blood vessels of face can also cause red discoloration of face.
Vaso-dilation occurs due to sympathetic stimulation like emotional stress, after consuming alcohol, thyroid disorders.
