Posted on Fri, 6 Nov 2015
Question: After laying flat on the floor watching tv for extended periods of time, when I get up quickly and walk a few steps the back of my legs feel like an electrical current is going through them and I am unable to stand. When I drop down the sensation goes away in less than a minute. Any idea what this might be? 1st episode in 2012, then increased in frequency for 2 years, now less frequent in 2015.

Brief Answer:
Nothing worrisome, get further neurological examination

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully, and understood your concerns.

From what you are reporting and your personal medical history, I can say as following :

The electrical feeling you get when starting walking after being sit or laid down in the floor for long time might be due to :

- blood sludge in your legs aggravated by varicose vein
- compression of local nerves

As you are saying to help blood circulation in the legs by using tight stocks, I advise to run further neurological examination of the peripheral nerves.

If the blood is not circulating well, nerves will not get supplied with blood properly. Furthermore, it won't be possible to get the metabolites fully cleared. Thus, nerves would get it difficult to function properly and you'll get the current symptoms.

I would also advise to check your blood sugar levels and a full biochemistry balance.

If everything is fine with your nerves, then, everything is related to staying laid down for long periods.

Keeping your legs in movement can also be helpful.

Hope it was of help!
