What Causes Elevated B12 Levels?

Question: Hello, I am a 39 year old female. I had blood work done recently my b12 level is 1244 pg/ml. my cbc was normal, liver function normal. I take 2500 mg b12 sublingual. I have no abnormal symptoms. Should I be concerned?

Elevated B12 is related to excessive ingestion.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam.

I understand your concern.

You seem to have pretty high levels of Vit B12.
Normal Range is between 200-900 pg/ml.

The most possible cause in your case seem to be elevated intake of Vit b12 as high as 2500mg/day by SL route.

Since your CBC and liver tests are normal,you need not worry much.

Reduction of the intake of B12 to 500 mg every alternative day for 2 months will lower the b12 levels to normal range.
