What Causes Elevated GGT And Bilirubin Levels In Adults?

My name is XXXX and I am 35 year old XXXXXXX male. I am a non-smoker, non-alcoholic and moderate non-vegetarian (once in 10 days). I weigh 69 kgs and have a moderately active life. My Lipid Profile (cholesterol, Triglycerides etc) are out of normal range. This has been the case since 2012 when I started tracking these parameters. Off late my SGPT and SGOT levels. I have no symptoms of loss of appetite, tiredness, weight loss etc (I have gained 2-3 kgs in last two months without corresponding increase in my food intake). My urine and stool are of normal color and regular frequency. My BP is normal. I have attached last 3 reports since Jul 2014.
What could be the reasons for my Lipid Profile and LFT results to be out of range? What should I do?

It could be due to Genetic disease.
Detailed Answer:
HI XXXX
Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.
I went through your reports . There is mild elevation in your Total Bilirubib and GGT ( liver enzyme ) . This can happen in an viral infection and there is nothing to be worried about it . One more possibility is some genetic disease like Rotar syndrome or XXXXXXX syndrome where there will be mild elevation in Bilirubin . Even these syndromes are harmless and nothing needs to be done for them . So just relax.
Coming to your cholesterol levels they are very much deranges especially Triglycerides . For your age these values are extremely high. There is a high possibility that the elevated cholesterol levels runs in your family . ( due to genes )
You need to be started on medication like Tablet Atorvastatin+Fenofibrate. I know you are taking Lipotab but how effective it is is doubtful .
Along with that you need to do a proper diet and good aerobic exercise.
Diet : Avoid Sweets , Carbonated drinks ( pepsi, Coco cola ), Avoid Non Veg especially Mutton , Beef , Egg yolk strictly , occasionally you can take Chicken and fish.
Eat more of vegetables , fruits and drink plenty of water.
Exercise : Do aerobic exercise like Brisk walking , Jogging , Running , Cycling , Swimming for atleast 20 minutes per day . Be regular do it daily .
Also increase the intensity or duration of exercise every 2 weeks .
Keep doing these and repeat Lipid Profile after 3 months and revert back .
Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .
Regards.

Thank you for your reply.
I was taking Isabgol along with Lipotab and during that period the Lipid profile improved. But then I started feeling bloated and discomfort with Isabgol so I stopped. My doctor hadrecommended Fibotab (by Torrent Pharma) as a replacement for Isabgol but that is unavailable at Pharmacies. Can you recommend a suitable replacement for Fibotab?
What about my high levels of SGOT and SGPT? Do you recommend getting myself investigated for determined the cause of high levels of Bilirubin , SGOT and SGPT? Though I have no problems, what could be long term implication of these high levels?
Awaiting your response.
Thanks and regards

Fibotab won't help for cholesterol
Detailed Answer:
HI
Ispagol or Fibotab are bulk forming agents mainly used in people with diarrhoea/Constipation . They will not help in reducing your cholesterol levels.
Anyhow if you still insists for that you can ask for Polycarbophil calcium ( this is the content of Fibotab ) brand name is Shreeji.
As of your SGOT , SGPT levels are concerned your recent report showed it as normal . Only Bilirubin and GGT were elevated and since it is very mild elevation I don't recommend any evaluation for that.
There are no long term implications that you need to worry.
Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask .
Regards.

Nothing needs to be done now.
Detailed Answer:
HI
I went through that but again these are minor elevations and nothing needs to be done . Such kind of elevations can happen due to minor viral infections or even due to intake of certain medications .
Do one thing repeat it after 3 months again and if the values are more than the present one then you can undergo the following tests.
IgM and IgG Hepatitis A antibodies, HBSAg, HCV RNA, IgM Anti-HBE Antibodies , Serum TSH and Ultrasound Abdomen .
But I feel that there is no need for any further evaluation as of now .
Regards.

Interacting with you has been very helpful. Will follow the regime advised by you and redo the test after 3 months. Hopefully everything will be underr control by then.
Thanks once again

Take care.
Detailed Answer:
HI
Take care and do start the cholesterol medicine . Also get your siblings ( brothers and sisters ) to get their Cholesterol checked as there is a high possibility of them too having high values .
