Brief Answer:
It is done to rule out prostatic cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for posting your question on Health Care Magic.
PSA is prostate specific antigen. It is usually elevated in malignancy.
There are many other benign conditions where PSA can be elevated like benign enlargement of prostate, prostatitis which is inflammation of prostate, post sexual intercourse and to some extent post bike riding also.
Hence a biopsy is needed to rule out malignancy.
Biopsy is usually done under anaesthesia hence it will not be painful.
Though minimum discomfort can be anticipated post procedure.
The report will take about 4 to 5 working days.
Hope this helps
Best wishes
