Question : I just had a repeat protein electrphroesis done due to an elevated m spike of .6 6 months ago. All other lab work was pristine. Mspike showed not being observed this time which I assume means it is 0, not present which is good news. The only other thing I saw was an elevated beta globulin of 1.7(it was 1.2 6 months ago). What does that mean? All over globulin total was 3.4(nothing else elevated). I do not want to worry about a new thing now.....
Brief Answer:
It can increase in other conditions also.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.
Beta globulin can increase in multiple myeloma, atherosclerosis & in high cholesterol state.
Your beta globulin level is slight high only and you don't have any M spike so no need to worry much about that. Just be relaxed. It is not any serious issue.
Hope I have answered your question.
If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer.
