What Causes Elevated Insulin Level?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Feb 2015
Question: Hello, was hoping I could have some assistance interpreting my Insulin Tolerance Testing lab results. I was told my insulin was much too high at the 1hr and 2hr marks?

I have a naturalpathic dr. telling me this is insulin resistance. What are the proper insulin ranges after the glucose drink 1 hour and 2 hours later?
Thanks for your time.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX

Welcome to HCM. I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

The normal values of insulin are

1. Fasting : 20-174 pmol/L

2. 1 hour after : 125 - 1917 pmol/L

3. 2 hours after : 111 - 1153 pmol/L

Most labs will give the normal only for fasting insulin as after food the values are not standardised. Your values are in normal range.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Brief Answer:
No pre diabetes or insulin resistance

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX

Your blood parameters are not showing any insulin resistance or pre -diabetes.
We take fasting sugar > 5.6 mmol/l , 2 hour after food >7.8 mmol/l and HbA1C more than 5.7% as pre diabetes.

If you are obese do regular exercise and be on diet control.

Wishing you good health.
