What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes?

default
Posted on Sat, 17 Oct 2015
Question: I recently got a blood test done and my doctor told me I have elevated liver enzymes. Normal is 40, but mine is 120. Anyways, I was wondering about this: I recently found a small yellow spot on my right breast. Is this the start of jaundice?
Is this something serious I should see my doctor for?
I don't drink alcohol. I am female around 24 years old. Almost 25 and I weigh about 150 lbs and I am 5'4"

Brief Answer:
this is not related to jaundice

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Well, there are many possible causes of elevated liver enzymes, some are benign, some are more serious. In your age, some serious diagnoses are last thing to think of. 120 is moderately elevated LFt and it should be evaluated by further tests. Jaundice is yellowish color of skin of whole body, and it happens when bilirubin is more than 40. some spots or skin discoloration are not sign of jaundice.
I suggets to repeat liver tests in 2-3 weeks, avoid alcohol by that time. If there is still elevation then you need to do liver ultrasound and hepatitis viral markers. Wish you good health. Regards
