Question: I took my depressed 84yr old mom to the doctor for malaise, poor appetite, nausea, fatigue "I don't feel well for many days" no fever. after eating small meal she feels "FLU like" very worried. Waiting labs from doctor today should I take her to the ER?BP 141/55 Blood sugar 246 but she had not taken glipizide yet.She is irritable and easily angry.

Blood glucoses persistently above 250 can rapidly progress to worrisome diabetes complications.

When I see someone like her in my practice, I typically order the following blood tests in addition to a detailed physical examination:

CBC
Electrolytes
Calcium
HbA1c (Glycosylated Hemoglobin = your 3 month glucose average)
Liver function tests
Kidney function tests
TSH
25 hydroxy Vitamin D
