Question : I received an epidural steroid injection 7 days ago to treat a herniated disc in my lower back. Since receiving the injection, I have been unable to maintain an erection. I'm 63 in excellent health & fitness - is this temporary or should I see my doctor

I understand your concern.

The epidural steroid injection delivers steroid directly into the epidural space in the spine; thus relieving inflammation and pain.
Sometimes, analgesics like lidocaine are used, which might give a temporary lost in sensation and explaining your inability to maintain an erection.

If lidocaine is also used, then, this explains your erection problems.

It will take a few more days to get totally relief.
If not, then, should follow up with your doctor.
