Question: I have been having excessive hiccups and burping, what could be the cause?

Hi,
You are asking about burping and hiccups.
These symptoms are highly associated with GERD ( acid reflux). At your case I would suggest to do upper endoscopy.
Meantime I would suggest as follows:
- use PPI's treatment like Prilosec OTC
- use antacids like gaviscon
- use prokinetic drugs like metoclopramide
- avoid coffe, chocolate and spicy foods
- use two pillows when you lay down
- eat often and small amount of meal.
- avoid unnecessary stress
