What Causes Excessive Menstrual Bleeding With Pelvic Pain?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2017
Question: I have had pcos for years. I on rare occasions took birth control to get a period, while other times it just naturally came back. I was use to only menstruating a few times a year. Just recently it came back and at first it started with pelvic discomfort. It ran its course for 7 days then i believed I was in the clear. I didn't bleed for a week. Then I had a pap smear right before the bleeding started again. No pain or cramping but I have been bleeding straight for over 10 days. I took a large dose of ibuprofen which stopped it some. Less messy and heavy like it was. Yet i am still bleeding. And the only thing my pap showed was that i could possibly have an infection of some sort. I am not on any medications nor am I ovulating, nor have i taken birth control for the past 2 years.

Brief Answer:
Need specific treatment with advise of a Gynecologist..

Detailed Answer:
Hi Kisscookie,
Thanks for the query. I have read it & understand your concern.
All the symptom complex you have through all these years , including recent episode of heavy bleeding you had.. are characteristic of PCOS. & can be controlled with systematic evaluation by investigations & detailed physical examination by a Gynecologist. The infection you have can be cured with specific medicines after knowing the causative organism.
The Ibuprofen you had taken had symptomatically relieved the pelvic discomfort you had... it does not have any effect on bleeding pattern. PCOS is known to cause no periods or irregular bleeding with irregular bleeding patterns ( scanty or profuse )
It seems you did not have any of the specific treatments for the condition. Please understand having a regular & ovulating menstrual cycle is important for a healthy woman's life .. not only for child bearing but also for preventing health problems like high blood pressure/ diabetes/ breast malignancy. Number of treatment plans are available to treat PCOS & prevent it's bad consequences.
* IN conclusion I would advise for an expert Gynecologist's advise & treatment to reverse the condition & have regular menstrual cycle imparting healthy life
I hope the answer was both informative & helpful to you. Any follow up query you have , please feel free to ask.
I request to grade the answer in case you find it useful , before you close the query.
