What Causes Excessive Mucus In The Throat?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Mar 2017
Question: I started on Monday feeling achy with lots of mucus in my throat, felt better Tuesday , started coughing (starting with phelgm but now is dry) and now today, I feel my sinuses starting to get "full" feeling. My husband and I would like to be better by Saturday. I do not like taking OTC drugs, so I have been drinking lots of hot water with a lemon in it, taking a tsp. of apple cider vinegar 3x day in hot water or alone , eating chicken noodle soup and lots of honey(on toast , in tea and in hot water). My husband has the same symptoms and we both feel "blah", esp. after coughing all night.

Brief Answer:
Most probably a viral infection of the upper respiratory passages!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for contacting us.

I have reviewed your information fully. The nature of these symptoms and the fact that you both are having similar symptoms point to a possible viral infection. Antibiotics do not generally help with this. Eating well, drinking much fluids and exercising are the most effective ways to help boost the system and allow for faster recovery.

To control symptoms, I will recommend claritin and tylenol for you both. Generally symptoms might last 5-7days. All other home remedy measures that you have mentioned above are okay to continue with.

I hope this helps. I wish you both a speedy recovery and keep me posted with your recovery process/evolution.

Kind regards.

If we do have to resort to OTC medicines for cough and congestion, what do you recommend?

Brief Answer:
Tylenol cold max!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I will recommend Tylenol cold XXXXXXX You can take 2caplets every 4-6hours. Do not exceed 10caplets in a day. Should you chose to take this, you must stop Tylenol and Claritin as ingredients carrying out the exact same functions are in this product.

I wish you well. Keep me posted about your progress.

Kind regards!
