What Causes Excessive Stomach Gurgling?

Question: I am a 71 year old male. Very often my stomach growls during the night. I don' have any stomach pain. Although I don't have diarrhea , my stool is soft.
I usually have two glasses of wine with my XXXXXXX meal which I eat usually around 1:00 o'clock in the afternoon. I eat a very small meal , often sardines or crackers and cheese and fruit.
What can you tell me about this excessive stomach gurgling.
Thank you
