Posted on Sat, 5 Dec 2015
Question: Dear Doctor,
This is XXXX XXXXXXX and my 15 months old son sweats a lot, i see sweat on his forehead, etc.

Is it normal in toddlers, he has been sweating like this since his birth.

Also he urinates frequently, in 30 minutes he urinates atleast once. Is this normal or something or concern? Do we need to get any tests done?

Thanks,
XXXX XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Do not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to the HCM

I understand your concerns but don't worry. At this age the hypothalamus which is regulatory center of body temperature in brain is still developing. So, babies often appear more sweaty and warm on their head end although the body temperature is normal. This improves gradually with age and most babies improve by their 3rd birthday.

Also, the concentrating capacity of the kidney develops gradually in the first 2 years of life. So, many infants and toddlers urinate more frequently as your child. If the weight gain is consistent and child is active, alert, then there is no need for any evaluation or treatment.

Hopefully it will be of help. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.

Take care

Thanks a lot Madam for your detailed answer. He is active and his growth is normal. One more thing, he has YELLOW WAX in his ears which we can see when he sleeps side wards, we donot try to clean that unless we see that coming near the END of ear. Is that fine?

Brief Answer:
Use soft cloth wick to clean to regularly

Detailed Answer:
Hi
You may use soft cloth folded into small wick to clean it after bath routinely. This will help in keeping it clear. No need for any ear buds or other treatment if there is no pus, redness, tenderness and fever.
