What Causes Excessive Sweating, Fatigue And Loss Of Energy?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Nov 2016
Question: A couple of months ago, I started sweating profusely from the back of my head until my hair is wet and running down my neck. Then the sweat starts on the forehead and runs down my face. This happens with only very small exertion. Such as making a salad up for dinner. I have to keep my house too cold for my husband so he has to wear warm clothes inside. I have no energy and feel extremely tired all the time. What in the world is causing this? I have to wash my hair almost every day to keep my hair from smelling sour.

Brief Answer:
Cause of excessive sweating, fatigue

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. You are having excessive sweating (hyperhydrosis), fatiguability, loss of energy. Also you should check your weight and appetite. It can suggest you more.

These symptoms can be due to various reasons like

: Hyperthyroidism - It can cause all of the above symptoms along with weight loss, increased appetite, sometimes diarrhoea, feeling warm even in cold, depression, palpitation.

It can be checked by
- Thyroid function test
- Ultrasound of neck

: Autonomic system disturbance - Autonomic system controls over sweating. Its disease can cause all of the above symptoms. It can be involved by
- Diabetes Mellitus neuropathy
- Autoimmune autonomic and sensory neuropathy
- Alcohol
- Few drugs

It can be confirmed by clinical evaluation of autonomic system
- Checking BP in sitting, supine and erect position and note the difference
- Checking for sweating in palms and soles
- Nerve conduction velocity
- If confusion, nerve biopsy like rural nerve

: Anxiety panic disorder with depression - It can be suspected if everything comes normal. It can be suspected based on symptomatology only. You need to confirm it by Psychiatrist

: Your loss of energy and fatiguability could be due to chronic fatigue syndrome, nutritional deficiency like anaemia, vitamin deficiency, calcium and low vitamin D3 level.

You should consult doctor and get blood examination done after clinical examination. It will rule out most disease. The treatment will depend upon final diagnosis. Also can you please give me information about few questions -

What is status of your weight?
Any history of increased appetite?
Any history of loosening of clothes?
Any history of insomnia, palpitation, palm sweating?
Any past history of continuous drug use?
Any past history of Diabetes?

Please let me know the answers of these to reach unto some conclusion about your illness.

Hope it will help you. If any doubt, do let me know.
Thanks. Take care.
