Brief Answer:
It can be gastroenteritis or simply high blood glucose.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I appologise for the late reply.

Thirsty and frequent urination can be signs of high blood sugar.
Do you have problems with diabetes control these days?

I need more information if you have diarrhea and how many days do you have this problem?
Do you take metformine or not?(this can be a potential cause)

Waiting your response.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
In my opinion,it can be stress.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear
I have gone through your query two days ago.
I've been trying to find time to write you back, but I'm very busy lately.
I appologise for the late reply.

You mention that your husband's diabetes is not under control.

Glucose levels can fluctuate for variety of reasons, but n my experience, stress is one of the most important and usual causes of high blood glucose in diabetics that have a healthy lifestyle, a healthy-eating plan and take regularly the diabetes treatement.(like your husband)

Anyway i want to remember that:out-of-control blood sugar levels can lead to dangerous complications like diabetic ketoacidosis and in long term, not controlling diabetes can also damage the vessels that supply blood to important organs, like the heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves.
So,it is very important to find the way to keep his blood sugar levels under control.

As endocrinologist ,i can say that if with Lantus insulin at night, your husband blood sugar is still high(300-400 mg/dl fasting and postprandial)this meand that for the moment your husbant needs another insulin regymen.

If your husband were my patient i will choise a basal bolus insulin therapy or a fast-acting insulin before meals together with a long-acting insulin for a better blood sugar control.

I can help you with the insulin doses,if you need help.Anyway i suggest to meet a local endocrinologist for more advices and the prescription.

Hope this is hepful.
If you have other questions, feel free and ask.I will be happy to help.
Best regards.
