default
Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: No matter how much I drink before going to bed I seem to have to get up for a small pee sometimes three times during the night. However during the day I seem to be able to hold it down to twice per day. I wonder Why? YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Minimal urge disturbs sleep.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. During day time, the body is metabolically very active. The increased metabolism uses water. Also sweating due to activities and temperature can lead to loss of water, which reduces body water. Finally, the urge can be controlled during daytime, due to involvement in other activities.

2. During nights, metabolism reduces, body water loss through any activities is nil and any minimal urge can lead to loss of sleep, which will wake you to pee.
This is normal. Avoid fluids after 4 pm, and try resisting small urges, it could help. No medication is necessary. As you start resisting, you will learn.

I do not suspect any urinary tract infection at present. This is normal.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
