35 pounds weight loss in just 3 weeks span is serious. This could only be pathological.

He has to be thoroughly examined, as such drastic weight loss occurs in severe inflammatory diseases or malignancies.

He may need a colonoscopy to find out the cases of diarrhea. Also, need investigations to rule out any serious inflammatory process going on.

I is best you advice him to consult his physician at the earliest.
