What Causes Exhaustion And Flare Ups Of Ulcerative Colitis?
Question: I've been fighting exhaustion and flare ups of ulceritive colitis for about 3 weeks now. I've been unable to sleep
at night,but will fall asleep anywhere during the day. I have fallen down while sleeping now, a couple of times. I also find myself talking to people that aren't there several time during the day. It's scaring me,
I feel like I'm losing my mind. Can you suggest what may be happening to me ?

Hello and thank you for your question. I am so sorry that you are having such difficulties. It is not unusual to have falls, hallucinations and other disturbances if you are not sleeping at night. If it is the ulcerative colitis that is keeping you awake then your doctor may need to change your medication for that or do a colonoscopy to see what is going on. You are on quite a high dose of trazodone but perhaps your doctor could increase that somewhat to help you sleep. If this does not help then your doctor may want to do a sleep study on you to make sure that you do not have sleep apnea. It sounds like your sleep deprivation is very serious so I suggest that you see your doctor as soon as possible to try and figure this out and get some sleep for you. You really do not want to end up with a broken hip or something because you fell when exhausted.
