Question : I have been on a combination of Prevacid-amoxicillin-clarithromycin for 21/2 days and am feeling constantly fatigued. I also have a chronic lower back pain. Is this the result of these drugs?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

clarithromycin can (rarely, less than 1%) cause fatigue and back pain. Before attributing your symptoms to the drug, other causes have to be sought first. For example an infection or anemia may cause fatigue and a muscle sprain or a herniated disc may cause back pain. Since the incidence of the side effects is very low, the common causes that usually cause these symptoms are more probable.

Some basic lab tests may be helpful, like a full blood count, creatine phosphokinase, urea, creatinine, liver function tests, electrolytes, etc
