default
Posted on Mon, 13 Oct 2014
Question: Hi. I am XXXX XXXXXXX living in New XXXXXXX .Female. 39 years.Trying to conceive and had IUIs 4 attempts prior to IVF and had IVF done in July 2014.

IVF failed ,no embryo transfer was done and trying naturally since then.I have regular periods with 28-29 days cycle. My weight is 89 Kgs and height 5ft 5 inches.

My problem is since the day of IVF ,i am feeling fatigue ,very sleepy and tired. i am not able to any task properly. I sleep at night at 9 p.m. and not able to wake up till 7.30 a.m.

Due to this not able to perform office work as i feel sleepy (kind of dizzy) all the time.Other than this i take thyronorm daily (88 mcg) and my thyroid levels are normal.

Any particular reason for this .Is this due to some harmonal issues since i was stimulated with injections for IUI and IVF.Do i need to get some tests done.

I am not pregnant as yet and got my periods today.

Brief Answer:
unlikely due to injections. tests suggested

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I understand the issue well. I am sorry that the IVF failed but then this is not uncommon. You may try again after waiting for a few months.

Your symtpoms are not likely due to the ovarian stimulation. This is because the cycle was done in July and now it is september. Also you have regular periods. The drugs do not remain in the system so long.
However thyroid may give rise to these symtoms especially hypothyroidism. So please check the TSH as well as free t3 and t4 levels again. I also suggest a blood sugar test done fasting and 1 1/2 hours after meal.
Another reason is stress as it is a major cause of similar symptoms.

I suggest that you see a physician and get an evaluation and also the thyroid hormone levels done. Also exercise regularly and eat a diet rich in fruits and low in carbohydrates. Do not eat plain sugar containing food.

Do not worry. This is not likely due to injections.
Hope this satisfies your query.

Dear Dr. XXXXXXX

As advised by you,i got my following tests done :

1.T-3,T-4,TSH
2.Hemoglobin(As sometimes my hemoglobin has also come on lower side.)
3.HBA1C
4.Vitamin D (As i had this deficiency 2-3 years back)

My reports are very much normal.(TSH is 2) HBA1C is 6.2 (which is pre-diabetic) However my reports have shown this level of HBA1C slightly on higher side earler also.

But my fatigue has not gone away.further my periods are delayed now by 5 days as i have 28 days cycle.I had a very slight bleeding the day (like the dry flakes while passing urine) i sent you my previous mail saying that my periods have started today.I always have normal to heavy bleeding, but it has not started yet, though i had cramps as always before periods.

I have not tried sex for two months now with husband as he was out of town.

Brief Answer:
subtle hormonal imbalances may cause delayed perio

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back,

The symptom of fatigue are due to various reasons ranging from thyroid to low hemoglobin to subclinical infections to almost any medical condition. So this will need a physician check up.

Also the delayed periods may be due to abnormal levels of hormones commonly seen in conditions like polycystic ovaries.
Stress also commonly delays periods as well as causes fatigue. It completely disrupts the normal hormones and so causes irregular periods. So please relax and exercise as well as eat a healthy diet as a part of your routine.

I do understand that you have an issue. Your thyroid is ok but the raised Hba1c indicates a hormonal issue underneath. A physician will help you with this.

Hope this helps.
I am extremely sorry for the delayed reply.
