Question: My son was positively diagnosed with Lyme disease in late 2011. treated with oral and then iv antibiotics. he hasn't gotten better and in the last 8 months has lost a drastic amount of weight. he had an endoscopy and colonoscopy two months ago that showed candida esophogitis and was treated with flucanozole. He is extremely fatigued, occasionally runs fevers, vomiting, nausea, stomach pain and headaches. We are doing more blood work now. Any thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Seems candidemia

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

The symptoms are suggestive of a granulomatous disease like tuberculosis. But the case history of your son is suggestive of candidemia. These symptoms are probably being caused by candida overgrowth in mucosa of various organs like Ear, nose, throat, gut etc. It has overgrown because of use of strong antibiotics.

Use of oral antifungals is only temporarily useful. Candida tends to grow back and sometimes it becomes resistant. Thus long term or repeated use is not recommended and may worsen your son's health condition.

One thing that works in most of my patients with similar scenario is drinking purest water from reverse osmosis technique. Other methods of increasing immunity also work like exercising daily for atleast 30 min, taking atleast 4 - 5 servings of fruit daily, avoiding sugary treats, avoiding stresses, etc

Since he is losing weight, I will also suggest that he is given nutritional supplements (that do not have omega 3, 6, 9) along with routine diet. Also give him high calorie foods like butter, cheese, creamy foods, etc.

Hope it helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
