What Causes Feeling Urine Urgency, Urine Burning And Frequent Urination?

Question: Hello Dr. I am 28 year male. I was facing urine urgency, urine burning and frequent urination since last 1.5 months. After few days, whenever I used to sit more than two hours I started to feel pain in the anal area. Nearly two weeks ago, I visited the urologist and he told me that it is due to prostatitis. He has prescribed Fluoroquinolones class antibiotics 500mg twice a day for three weeks. After two weeks, I am feeling some improvements in my symptoms but pain in the anal area still bothers me if I sit for more than two hours. Should I ask the doctor for antibiotics for few more days? I have already cut down on caffine and spicy food. What other life style changes need to be done in order to get relief from symptoms? Is it okay if I do physical workout? Should I stop having sex for sometime?

Brief Answer: Refer below Detailed Answer: Urinalysis and culture including initial stream, mid-stream, and after a prostate massage and tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea are required for definitive diagnosis of prostatitis. Bases on these results appropriate management plan will be decided. If there is no resolution of symptoms completely with Fluoroquinolones class antibiotics which you are using now. Discuss this with your doctor. What other life style changes need to be done in order to get relief from symptoms? Take more amount of water, if your GP did not find any contraindications in doing so. Is it okay if I do physical workout? It is okay to do. Should I stop having sex for sometime? It is better to avoid since it is not good when you have pain and infection will not be transmitted. Better to resume after your doctor confirms complete cure of infection.
