Question: My 7yr old ate a Big Hershey bar candy yesterday & woke up sick. He rested all day & is now running a fever of 101. Could it be the candy? No one else in the house is sick

Brief Answer:
If others are fine, candy bar is less likely the cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns but don't worry. If no one else has fallen sick after having the candy bar, it's highly unlikely to be a case of food poisoning. In my opinion your child is suffering from a fever which could be viral or due to any other infection. It is very early to go for any definitive investigation or treatment at this stage.

I would recommend you the following measures:

1. Give him acetaminophen or ibuprofen for fever episodes. Also use cold sponging to bring faster relief. You may repeat the same for persistent fever after 6-8 hours.
2. A good healthy diet and fluids will be of help.
3. Give him proper rest. Take the day off from school.

Hopefully this will help him.
In case the fever is persistent for more than 3 days or there is any other symptom, do contact me.
I will be happy to help you.

Take care
