What Causes Fever And Sore Throat While Treating Wound At Mosquito Bite Site?

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Sep 2015
Question: Hi my 9 year old got a mosquito bite and it turned into cellulitis. I was prescribed Bactria for him but I chose to put a charcoal poultice on his hand for two days and the redness and swelling is gone. He had a low grade fever when we went into the Dr., but now I noticed he has cold like symptoms, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose and still has the fever. I'm thinking it's the cold but want to make sure he isn't getting septic

Brief Answer:
Can I see an image of the leg?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

True, his symptoms are suggestive of a possible cold but I will like to make sure that is nothing concerning going on with the leg. I will like to review an image to role out most importantly an infection.

To upload an image, simply click on the link to upload a file and follow the instructions. If this proves difficult, please send the image by mail to YYYY@YYYY and request that the image should be uploaded to your query.

As soon as I get the image, if an infection at this mosquito bite site is unlikely, then we will manage as a cold. Until then, I will not make any quick conclusions.

I will get back to you as soon as the information comes in.

Brief Answer:
There is no sign of cellulitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have reviewed the attached image and there is no sign of cellulitis. I will recommend that you go ahead and manage the child as a cold because this fever cannot be cause be sepsis. Managing cold is all about addressing the symptoms like Tylenol for headache and fevers, eating healthy and much fruits and vegetables.

If there is any other concern, please let me know and we shall address accordingly.
