Question : my 8 yr old grandson woke up this morning with a belly ache and a temperature of 102.5. gave him children's Tylenol and temperature, after 15 minutes, is at 101.7. I wonder whether to take him to his doctor yet. how do I decide when to do so?
Brief Answer:
Better to take if not improving
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
I understand that your grandson has fever and stomach ache.
Usually it is because of viral infection.
It may take a few days before settling down.
But if he becomes dull, with poor intake and persistent stomach ache, you need to take him to his doctor.
Otherwise you can try a few more doses of Tylenol every 6 hours to see if that helps. If not visit his pediatrician.
Giving him plenty of liquids to keep him hydrated will help in the meantime.
Wishing your grandson speedy recovery.
