Question : XXXXXXX has been suffering from cold and cough from the past 3-4 days.
After visiting the doctor, he suggested - Clamp Kids Forte, XXXXXXX Junior, Levolin.
When we started giving medicines, it didn't suit at he got fever, no sleep for 2 days, continuous crying, and watery stools almost after every feed.
Later the doctor did an Xray which was clear and other blood tests and CRP which were OK. Doctor has now changed the medicine to only 1 i.e. Cepodem 50 mg 2.5 ml twice.
My question is this medicine lighter than the earlier ones. We are afraid of giving the new medicine based on the previous experience. Please share you valuable experience regarding this.

Brief Answer:
Your child is probably suffering from a viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I am sorry to hear about your child. Most of such fevers are due to viral infections where antibiotics are ineffiective. Antibiotics are given to treat any superadded bacterial infection (if any). But the viral infection takes 5-7 days to subside irrespective of the use of antibiotics.

There is nothing to classify antibiotics as heavy or light. It is just a layman's term that does not really hold a medical significance. Both of them are good antibiotics, used frequently by doctors and can be safely given. The antibiotics also belong to similar groups and should be effective for the type of bacterial infection that may have occurred. But the viral infection would take its time and that does not mean that the antibiotic is not proper. Please complete the dose of the antibiotic.

The temperature definitely needs to be kept in control for which paracetamol needs to be given. If the child is otherwise active and feeding well, you need not worry. But if the child becomes lethargic or stops feeding well, you would have to rush the child to your pediatrician. Since CRP is negative, I would not really worry.

Hope that helps.

One more point to add, we recently discovered that when XXXXXXX is swaddle wrapped or have more woolen clothes, his temperature increases to 100-101. But when we unwrap him and make him wear clothes the same layer like we wear, his temperature comes back to normal 96-97
The reason for swaddle wrap was since he was born premature, he was advised to remain wrapped. Please provide your insights into it

Brief Answer:
Temperature can rise up when wrapped. It is not abnormal.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

In case of excessive wrapping, the temperature inside can rise up exactly as you have mentioned and there is nothing abnormal in it. Just keep the baby loosely wrapped or exposed in case the temperature rises above 99°F. If the temperature comes down if unwrapped, you need not worry. Just realise what is optimal and maintain that and things would be fine.
