Hi,
It is possibly a viral infection. This is the most common reason for fever, sore throat, weakness, pain, headache.
Viral infections of the respiratory tract can cause pain on taking a deep breath if there is any inflammation of the pleura which is the lining surrounding the lungs.
Pain on taking a deep breath can also occur with pulmonary embolism which is a clot in the lung but this would not normally cause a sore throat , pain, headache. It would also be associated with shortness of breath as well. If he is experiencing shortness of breath or the chest discomfort is severe, then he should be seen.
The inflammation of the pleura is usually treated with anti inflammatory medication such as cataflam , ibuprofen, naproxen. One of these can be used, it would help the headache, jaw pain and sore throat as well. Can be used with the tylenol.
Using lots of water is a good idea along with rest.
There are also topical medications that can help with the throat such as covonia throat spray or chloroseptic. If the sore throat lasts longer than 3 to 4 days with no improvement then it maybe bacterial and antibiotics maybe needed.
