What Causes Fever With Chills After A CT Scan With Contrast Today?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Sep 2022
Question: Thank-you!! I had a CT scan with contrast today. The scan took place about 8hrs ago. Over the course of the evening I have been experiencing chills. I checked my temp, and it;s now at 102. I should mention I have ovarian cancer, and had chemo last tuesday. The side effect have not been bad. I've been at the gym, and taking care of my family. I don't think fever has anything to do with chemo.

Brief Answer:
Fever and chills after contrast CT explained.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Mild fever, chills can be a general side effect of contrast injection.
Also another possibility is that you are suffering an infection due to lower immunity by chemo treatment considering that is high fever not mild (102 F°).
You should continue to take Advil or paracetamol every 4-6 hours and keep yourself under observation.
If you develop other symptoms of infection
and you don't get better in proceeding hours you should do blood tests and maybe require antibiotic treatment.
Keep your under observation.

Hope I have answered the question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
