Brief Answer:
Gastroenteritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your query.
Based on the information given by you , it appears to be gastroenteritis.

How many episodes of loose stool he had?
Is it associated with mucous and or any blood?

I would have examined you, and asked for few investigation like urine routine, stool examination. I would have treated you with the combination of ciprofloxacin and tinidazole( take care of birth bacterial and amoebic cause). I would have asked you to drink plenty of fluids, electrolyte powder, and ecobion or sporolac sachets(probiotic), which will be helpful. I would suggest you to have curd, banana which will help in relieving your bowel symptoms.

As you have mentioned black stool, it need to be evaluated for the presence of any blood.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.
Hope this helps.
Take care.

He has had 2 loose stools today. They are black, no blood or mucus. I'm sure he will be seeing a doctor tomorrow. I was worried it was a kidney problem.

Brief Answer:
continue the treatment till you see doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Good to hear from you.
Kindly take the ciplox tablet which you are already taking and you can take probiotic as mentioned earlier, till you visit doctor.
It is very difficult to say whether it is related to kidneys or not based on the information; your doctor based on examination can be able to decide.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
