I started 2 days ago on Metoclopramide 10 mg, mebeverine hydrochloride 200 mg, APO- Ranitidine 150 mg twice a day for acid reflux & IBS, and since I started these medications the bloating increased frequently which is too much gases coming out with very bad smell. is this is normal with these drugs or what?
Due to anaerobic bacteria in the gut
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern and embarrassment.
You have excess of gas forming bacteria and when they are fed on gas forming foods like pulses, broccoli, nuts etc, more gas is formed. The foul smell is related to sulfur.
You can reduce the problem by avoiding
Vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, onions, artichokes, and asparagus
Beans
Fruits such as apples, pears, and peaches
Whole grains, such as whole wheat and XXXXXXX
Sodas and fruit drinks
Foods with sorbitol, often used as a sweetener in sugar-free gums and candies etc.
You can also take some medicine to kill the gas forming bacteria.
Since you have been having repeated episodes abdominal pain and discomfort, it would be good to investigate for H.Pylori.
Wish you good health.
