What Causes Flu Like Symptoms, Vomiting, Body Pain, Hot And Cold Flashes?

Posted on Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Question: I have had what I would call flu like symptoms for about 10 days, felt really bad with vomiting and body aches for 4 days. felt somewhat better, went back to work and after 3 days of work I am feeling even worse. Started with runny stools 2 days ago. Hot and cold flashes. It seems to have symptoms like GERD, which I take protonix for. The pressure and pain in my chest was very painful yesterday, actually debated ER visit. it seems to be back in my stomach today, queasy, crampy and general burning. Should I go to the Dr. or just perhaps try Nexium for a while? Or just wait it out. Heart stress test 2 years ago was super.

Brief Answer:
nexium would help

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

You can try the nexium for a while.

Gastroenteritis (inflammation and/or infection of the stomach and intestines) can cause reflux symptoms because of irritation of the gastric lining.
The use of the nexium should help to decrease these symptoms.

Because this family of drugs, proton pump inhibitor such as nexium, prevent acid production but do not help with the acid already present , you may also want to take at least 1 dose of another family that may help with the initial acid eg zantac or pepcid

In addition, the use of probiotics, either on their own or in yogurt has been shown to help with the resolution of diarrhea.

The use of solid food, while still having diarrhea, would worsen the diarrhea. It would be best to use only liquids till this improves.

Rehydration fluids or gatorade would help to replace any fluids lost.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Is my protinix in the same family as nexium? Tums seem to give very brief relief. The stomach pains seem to subside a bit with toast. Just feel like crap! Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
yes , same family

Detailed Answer:
HI

Yes ,protonix is in the same family. Other drugs in this class are prevacid, aciphex, prilosec.

This is the best class for acid symptoms, the only issue is that would not affect acid already present so one of them can be used along with another med that would help with the acid there at the moment.
Can try pepcid or zantac if tums does not provide long term relief

Sorry you feel so unwell

Please feel free to ask anything else

Hi. I have taken malanga and eaten bread and milk. The pain is now across my chest, very warm spreding feeling. Feel flushed at same time. Can this be from my stomach bug? I am debating an er trip. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
may be best to be assessed

Detailed Answer:
HI

It is likely from the stomach bug but because females can present with atypical (not typical) chest symptoms related to the heart, it may be best to take a visit to the ER.

If anything else unclear , feel free to ask
