What Causes Fluctuated Tumor Markers After Testicular Cancer Surgery?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 May 2014
Question: My husband had testicular cancer and since the surgery last April his tumor markers have fluctuated. Is it normal for your tumor markers to fluctuate so much? His markers were high 6 months ago then they went back down when they retested a week later. Then when he just got them rechecked this week they were high again. Is this something we should be worried about?

Brief Answer: need reevaluation.. Detailed Answer: Dear XXXXX, After surgery and other treatment for testicular cancer the markers which are initially raised come down. If they stay in the normal range the disease is in remission. But if they rise beyond the range we have to look seriously for the reactivation of the disease possibly in the form of metastasis. Please visit his physician for a recheck up and further advice. Truly, Dr. J. Ticku
