What Causes Fluctuations In BP While Suffering From Partial Seizures?

Question: My husband is being treated for partial seizures (Age 64) which went undiagnosed for about a year but since has been diagnosed and treated. He's on 200 mg vimpat twice a day and 500 mg of Depakote twice day. He just had the vimpat increased to 300 mg twice a day because the seizures haven't been completely controlled and he continues to lose large amounts of memory both short term and long term. He always had low blood pressure but this past year it has gradually increase to the point that he now has high blood pressure with sometimes a low how rate. Last night his pressure was 201/100 and then went down to 198/95 with a pulse at 56. This morning his pressure was 148/81 with a pulse at 71. While he was in the hospital his pulse rate was 40 and other times it stays in the 40's. Any ideas why he is his pressure/pulse swings so high and low and does this have anything to do with his seizures?

Brief Answer:
Needs to be evaluated and consult doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXX,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Your husband's partial seizure needs to be evaluated properly as onset at this age may be due to structural cause or some stroke related. Mri contrast study and eeg is must.
Anti epileptic being taken are proper and will lead to seizure control.
All antiepileptics have some side effects with memory impairment being the common one.
Fluctuations in blood pressure or pulse rate is uncommonly reported. But according to me it must be evaluated for any cardiac cause.
Routine blood investigation like vitamin B12, Thyroid profile, liver function test, renal function test, lipid profile, blood sugar should be done.
Regular blood pressure monitoring to be done.
At such a high blood pressure drug is needed.
You should consult neurologist and general physician for blood pressure.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
