What Causes Fluctuations In Platelet Counts?

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: Can platelet counts vary significantly in the normal range? I have had 307, 299, 280 and 280 over the last 4 tests. Just wanted to know if this could be normal. As far as I know I am healthy enough per all my last blood work.

Thank you.

Hello. Yes it can happen

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear.

I can understand your concern. Yes, it is quite possible to have a varying platelet counts. The normal range is between, 150 to 450 thousand. Reason is the variable rates of platelet production and destruction.

So nothing to worry.
