What Causes Fluid Behind Eardrum?

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Oct 2014
Question: I have fluid behind my eardrum. Most of the time no pain. This has come and gone for a couple of months, but has been steady the last 3 or 4 weeks. Ear feels full and hearing is greatly decreased. My doctor has me on nasal spray and antihistamine with decongestant. I have been on the meds for a week. How long before I get relief?

Brief Answer:
As below:

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Get the following tests done:
a. An ear drum examination
b. An Impedance Audiogram (Tympamnogram)
c. A Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA)

2. These results will help predict when how soon you will recover. Normal healing time is a couple of weeks with medication. If this is one sided, a nasal endoscopy may be required to check why the Eustachian Tube on one side is not functioning properly.

3. Upload these test results for further discussion.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any follow up queries, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
